"The X Factor Diet" is a weight loss book written by Leslie Kenton and published by Vermilion, an imprint of Ebury Publishing. The book describes a metabolic disorder called syndrome X, or insulin resistance syndrome, and discusses ways to rid the body of this syndrome to both look and feel better. The diet proclaims to have no calorie counting involved and the ability to reset the body's metabolism.

Syndrome X

Syndrome X is the collection of metabolic disorders known as insulin resistance. With high carbohydrate and high sugar diets plaguing the nation, bodies are becoming unresponsive to insulin produced in the body. Insulin, produced in the pancreas, is what lowers the body's blood glucose (or blood sugar). When the body begins to be unresponsive to insulin, it will keep secreting more in an effort to bring energy out of a cell and when it is not able to get energy, it becomes fat.

Diet Features

The X Factor diet focuses on low glycemic and low carbohydrate foods with healthy fats and proteins. It has an exercise program for energy building. Omega 3 fats are increased so that they can help the body in its efforts to function properly. It also offers recipes and eating plans, research and support, as well as what is called an "idiot's guide" section for all possible questions.

The Food

With any diet the major concern is what foods are going to be allowed to eat and if it is very restrictive. Many of the foods that are going to be excluded are the high carbs, foods like pasta and rice, cereal and bread. Allowed are lean meats, fish, eggs and some of the healthier fats rather than butter.

Results

By following the 14 day diet plan, the proper exercise and adhering to a new lifestyle without sneaks or cheats, the results can be 4 to 12 lb. weight loss in two weeks for the women and 8 to 16 lb. weight loss in two weeks for the men. After the initial two weeks of dieting, the weight loss is slowed to approximately 1/2 to 2 pounds.
