You may want to upgrade the stock pedals that came with your bike to different pedals, or perhaps replace a damaged pedal--but for what ever reason, removing and replacing a bicycle pedal is relatively easy. It's important to remember that the right pedal and the left pedal are threaded in opposite directions. The right pedal is tightened in a clockwise manner, while the left pedal is tightened counterclockwise. The entire procedure can be accomplished in just a few minutes.
Step 1
Ensure that both wheels of the bicycle are in contact with the ground.
Step 2
Position the pedal wrench along the right crank arm. Place the end of the pedal wrench onto the pedal slots of the pedal threads between the pedal itself and the crank arm.
Step 3
Turn the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the thread of the pedal. Continue to loosen the threads until the pedal can be removed.
Step 4
Position the pedal wrench along the left crank arm. Place the end of the pedal wrench onto the left pedal slots.
Step 5
Turn the wrench clockwise to loosen the thread and continue to loosen them until the pedal can be removed.
Step 6
Apply a thin coating of grease to the threads on the new pedals. Insert the threads into the crank arms a tighten them finger-tight.
Step 7
Tighten the pedals by turning the right pedal slots clockwise and the left counterclockwise with the pedal wrench.
