Nobody would turn down the offer of smooth, wrinkle-free skin, but modern cosmetic prices make trying to keep ourselves young an expensive challenge. Making your own cosmetics is less expensive than purchasing store bought, and is also surprisingly effective. You can also customize the recipes to your own preference. Use your homemade wrinkle cream morning and night, smoothing it on them wiping off excess. Let the cream fully soak in to your skin before applying any other cosmetics over it.
Step 1
Place 6 tbsp. of oil and 1 tbsp. of either beeswax or lanolin in the top of a double boiler over very low heat. For the oil, you can use any one of, or combination of jojoba oil, apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil or wheat germ oil.
Step 2
Warm the oil ingredients in the double boiler until the beeswax or lanolin is thoroughly melted, stirring with a wooden spatula until evenly blended.
Step 3
Warm 2 to 5 tbsp. of rosewater, depending on how thick you want the cream to be, in separate saucepan over very low heat. Either stir 1/4 tbsp. of borax in with the rosewater or pierce one 400 IU vitamin E capsule and squeeze its contents into the rosewater. Stir until well blended.
Step 4
Allow the rosewater mixture to cool until it's lukewarm, then stir rapidly into the melted wax/lanolin mixture until thoroughly blended. Remove the double boiler from the heat and set it aside to cool to room temperature.
Step 5
Add up to 5 drops of essential oil, total, to the cooled mixture, if desired. Geranium oil, rose oil, carrot seed or chamomile oil all make good choices for wrinkle creams. Stir thoroughly to blend the essential oils in.
Step 6
Store the cream in a sterile, airtight glass jar. The vitamin E or borax acts as a preservative, so this doesn't have to be kept in the refrigerator, but it should still be stored in a cool, dark place.
Tips and Warnings
- You can sterilize the glass jar by running it through the top rack of the dishwasher.
