After you have given birth, you'll most likely be left with some extra weight that you have gained during the course of your pregnancy. During labor and delivery, you'll drop an average of 10 to 15 lbs. However, you'll need to use healthy food and exercise to get rid of the rest of the baby weight fast.
Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is an effective way for new mothers to quickly drop the weight leftover after having a baby. Mothers who exclusively breastfeed their children burn an extra 600 calories per day. According to The Bump website, it has been found that breastfeeding helped women lose inches off their hips as well.
Drinking Water
Drinking plenty of water, especially before meals, allows you to fill up without adding any calories to your diet. Water can also allow you to reduce calorie intake when you drink it instead of high calorie beverages, like coffee drinks, soda and fruit juices. This can help you lose the baby weight faster. Instead of drinking a set number of glasses per day, women should drink enough so that their urine runs clear.
Exercise
A mixture of aerobics and strength training can burn a lot of calories to help you get back in shape postpartum. Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes five days a week. If you don't have a set amount of time to workout, exercise in smaller intervals. Besides running, cycling and swimming, you can exercise with your baby by taking jogs or brisk walks in the stroller.
Don't Diet
According to CBS News, following a specific diet can make it difficult to lose the post-pregnancy weight. Instead you should follow portion control and load up on healthy and low-calorie foods. Foods high in fiber, like fruits, veggies, and whole grains are low fat and can make you feel full longer. Keep track of how many calories you eat a day and try to scale back 500 calories each day to lose an average of 1 to 2 lbs. per week. Avoid foods high in saturated fat, like fatty cuts of meat, fried dishes, fast food, sweets and chips.
