Many people have bags underneath their eyes. They are sometimes characterized by darkening of the affected area, but can also consist of just puffiness underneath the eye. Eye bags don't signify any other significant health concerns, but they are likely to appear when you are tired or feeling the effects of allergies. Unless you have chronic bags under your eyes, there are several home remedies you can perform to help reduce their appearance.
Step 1
Apply a cold compress to your face using a soft cloth damp with cold water. Hold the compress to your eyes for at least five minutes to reduce puffiness under the eyes.
Step 2
Get plenty of sleep, and elevate your face. Many people experience bags under their eyes when they aren't getting adequate sleep each night. If you are waking up every morning tired and with bags under your eyes, they are most likely related to one another. You should also sleep with your head elevated on a pillow--if your head is flat or lower than your body, blood can rush into the blood vessels under your eyes and create bags while you sleep.
Step 3
Place two tea bags moistened in cold water over your closed eyes for 15 minutes. This works as a cold compress, and the tannins in the tea can also improve the condition of the skin under the eyes, pulling it tight while reducing swelling.
Step 4
Apply an antihistamine cream under the eyes on the swelling to help reduce swelling and the influence of any histamines that might be aggravating your allergies.
Step 5
Visit your doctor to ask about getting eyelid surgery--also called blepharoplasty--to reduce sagging skin and fat deposits under the eyes. This is a minor plastic surgery procedure but may result in slight scarring.
