Scarring from burns affects those who suffer first-, second- and third-degree burns without prejudice. Even the smallest burn can form a scar when left untreated due to the damaged skin and tissue. There are things you can do to minimize scarring with a first- or second-degree burn; however, never treat severe burns such as third-degree burns yourself. Seek medical attention immediately for more severe skin burns.

Step 1

Apply aloe vera gel to the burn. This will cool and soothe damaged skin as well as promote skin healing and scar prevention. Aloe vera is a natural antibiotic and keeps infection at bay as well. Apply three to four times a day.

Step 2

Take a daily multivitamin containing vitamins A, C, E and B complex. These four vitamins are essential to skin cell rejuvination and collagen fiber formation in the body. This will heal the burn and minimize scarring by supporting the skin's natural healing process.

Step 3

Apply vitamin E moisturizer to the burn site. Vitamin E builds collagen fibers, which keep skin elastic and smooth. Collagen is needed for proper healing and scar prevention.

Step 4

Eat foods such as fish, fresh fruits and vegetables. These foods are natural antioxidants that keep away bacteria and help speed up the healing process. Avoid refined sugars, caffeine, and tobacco as these products restrict blood flow and slow the healing process, causing scarring to worsen.

Step 5

Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water per day. Water flushes out the body and keeps skin hydrated. Moisture is the key to skin health and natural healing. Keeping skin moist and supple will minimize any scarring.
