Puffy eyes or bags under your eyes most commonly result from fatigue or allergies, although other factors can contribute to their development. Baggy eyes can become more prevalent with age, and the condition sometimes becomes chronic as fat deposits develop or skin starts to sag. In most cases, home remedies can reduce and eventually remove the bags under your eyes. If these remedies fail, a surgical option is available.
Step 1
Apply a cold compress to your eyes using a soft cloth soaked in cold water. Hold the compress for at least five minutes, but preferably 10 to 15 to reduce swelling in the eyelids and around the eyes.
Step 2
Place two moist tea bags on your eyes and keep them there for 10 to 15 minutes. Much like a cold compress, this will help reduce inflammation, but the tannins in the tea can also help rejuvenate your skin and make it more taut, which can reduce the visibility of your bags.
Step 3
Mash several slices of cucumber into a paste and apply the paste onto the bags under your eyes. Leave the paste on your skin for 10 to 20 minutes and repeat as part of your nightly routine. This paste can also help reduce the visibility of wrinkles.
Step 4
Get plenty of sleep at night and use a pillow or other object to elevate your head. Bags resulting from fatigue can be easily remedied by getting adequate sleep each night. Elevating the head can make a major difference for some individuals--it prevents blood from rushing to your head and filling the capillaries under your eyes, causing increased swelling that is visible as bags.
Step 5
Visit a plastic surgeon to discuss the possibility of getting a blepharoplasty--a minor surgical procedure done to remove fat deposits creating the bags under your eyes and to tighten the skin on your face. If your bags are a product of aging, this may be the only permanently effective method of eliminating them.
