It's completely normal for the skin to lose some of its elasticity as you age. Areas such as the skin around and under the eyes can start to sag and wrinkle. Lifestyle factors such as smoking and sun exposure can exacerbate these signs of aging. However, with a few changes to your daily routine, you can reduce or even eliminate the wrinkles under your eyes.
Step 1
Cleanse the skin with an exfoliant several times a week. It should contain smooth abrasives like micro-beads to gently slough away dead skin cells and help your wrinkles fade. Avoid seed-based exfoliants as these can scratch and damage your skin.
Step 2
Stay out of the sun. Too much sun exposure causes wrinkles for many people, so avoiding the sun is one of the best ways to prevent the signs of aging. Whenever you go outside, wear a sunscreen that contains an SPF of at least 15 to protect yourself from further damage.
Step 3
Use an at-home chemical peel that contains an alpha hydroxy acid like glycolic acid to remove the top layer of skin. Just apply the peel to your skin, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse well with warm water. A concentration of about 8 percent yields the best results, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Step 4
Apply a cream under your eyes each evening. The skin beneath your eyes is very sensitive and delicate. Lack of sleep, eyestrain and even rubbing your eyes can contribute to the development of wrinkles. This cream will firm up the skin and constrict the blood vessels, preventing swelling and puffiness.
Step 5
Use a cream containing tretinoin as prescribed by your doctor. This drug can help reduce wrinkles by boosting collagen production and slough off dead skin cells to make a more even and vibrant skin surface.
