Body odor can be a major concern for many people. It is embarrassing, unpleasant and can affect how you interact with other people. Your body contains millions of sweat glands that help eliminate toxins and cool you off when you feel hot. Most of the sweat glands in your body secrete salts and water, but the sweat glands in your groin area and arm pits give off complex waste compounds that include fats and proteins. These substances are dissolved by microorganisms, resulting in unwanted body odors. Fortunately, there are many methods you can apply to eliminate these odors so you can smell fresh and clean.

Step 1

Bathe or shower on a daily basis. Use an antimicrobial soap or body gel and wash every part of your body. Use a loofah or body sponge to help scrub your body clean.

Step 2

Change your clothes, including socks and underwear, every day. Wash your undergarments after each use and all your other clothes when they smell sweaty or get dirty. Change your socks one or two times a day if they get sweaty and apply foot powder to help reduce foot irritation and odor.

Step 3

Brush and floss your teeth after every meal to reduce and prevent bad breath. Make sure to visit your dentist at least twice a year for professional cleaning.

Step 4

Talk to your doctor if you are sweating excessively. You may have a medical condition such as hormonal imbalance, inflammation or diabetes--all of which can cause excessive sweating and body odor.
