Acne is a condition that causes sebum to become trapped under the skin. As your body begins to produce more sebum, it clogs the pores and creates painful bumps. These bumps can alter your appearance in addition to causing discomfort. Though there are many over-the-counter products and prescriptions geared toward eliminating acne, some prefer to opt for a more natural approach.
Step 1
Stand in a hot shower or hold your face over a pot of boiling water for a few minutes to allow your pores a chance to open up before you wash your face. A warm damp cloth placed over your face for two to three minutes will have the same effect. When your pores are open, it's easier to clean out dirt and bacteria that's trapped inside.
Step 2
Mix a teaspoon of table salt into a pint of warm water and wash your face with it. The salt will help to dry out the excess oils that cause acne. Pat your face dry with a soft clean dry towel. Wiping your face with the towel will only irritate your skin so be sure to only gently press the towel to your face to absorb the excess moisture.
Step 3
Dip a clean cloth or cotton ball in fresh lemon juice and apply it to your face focusing on areas that are affected by acne. Leave the lemon juice on your skin overnight and rinse it away with clean warm water. Do this every night to help reduce acne.
Step 4
Dip a cotton ball into egg whites and apply it to pimples that are ready to pop. Leave the egg white on overnight to help draw the infection out.
Step 5
Drink six to eight glasses of water daily to stay hydrated and keep your system flushed. Drinking plenty of water will help to flush out impurities and toxins that may contribute to acne.
Tips and Warnings
- For severe cases of acne, talk to your doctor or a dermatologist about possible causes and treatments.
- Do not pop pimples or pick at them as this will only lead to scarring. Keep your hair pulled back off of your face as well. Oils in our hair and fingertips only make acne worse.
