If a person suffers from stinky feet, the condition can be bothersome to both the individual and those around him. Stinky feet occur when the feet sweat and the perspiration becomes trapped in socks or footwear. You are more prone to stinky feet if you are experiencing hormonal changes or have a tendency to sweat excessively. If you are unable to relieve smelly feet on your own, speak with a podiatrist about potential cures.
Step 1
Clean your feet on a daily basis. Use an antibacterial soap and wash the feet thoroughly. Scrub between your toes to remove any dirt that may have become lodged there. Rinse and pat the feet dry. Wait until the feet are completely dry before putting on socks and shoes.
Step 2
Apply an antiperspirant to the soles of your feet. This can combat the sweat and freshen the feet. If you have cracked skin on your feet, avoid applying the antiperspirant directly to these areas.
Step 3
Wear thick cotton socks. The cotton allows the feet to breathe while the thickness of the socks can help absorb excess sweat. If you are prone to smelly feet, make it a habit of changing your socks twice a day. Your socks should be changed after exercise as well.
Step 4
Pour a small amount of baking soda into your shoes. The baking soda absorbs odor and dries wetness that may be found in shoes. Keeping your shoes damp can encourage the growth of bacteria. You should avoid wearing the same pair of shoes on consecutive days.
Step 5
Use an over the counter odor destroying spray on nicer shoes. As an alternative to baking soda, a spray can be applied to the insoles of your shoes. Odor destroying insoles are available as well. Active ingredients will likely include baking soda and activated charcoal.
Step 6
Soak your feet on a weekly basis to remedy the condition. Fill a basin with warm water and stir in a third of a cup of apple cider vinegar. Leave the feet in the mixture for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing and drying.
