Static is a common plague of fabrics fresh from a drying machine, but when these fabrics come in contact with your hair, the electric charge can be transferred to it. This can cause wild hair spreading in all directions. Static can quickly ruffle and ruin styled hair and make you look messy. But there are a few easy remedies to static, and there are options you can pull from your purse or back pocket to remove static while on the move.

Step 1

Use conditioner in your hair when you wash it. Some shampoos can be harsh on the hair and strip it of natural oils, making it more susceptible to static. Conditioner moisturizes your hair and protects it from static.

Step 2

Dry your hair with a ceramic, ionic dryer. This specialty hairdryer neutralizes the electric charge that contributes to static without stripping the hair of moisture.

Step 3

Use rubber, metal or other combs advertised as static-reducing or resistant to static so that you don't put static in your hair before you step out the door. Stay away from plastic combs, which can be a big contributor to static.

Step 4

Run a dryer sheet over your hair to neutralize and remove static. In the clothes dryer, dryer sheets reduce static generated through the drying process--these small sheets as also effective on your hair. Dryer sheets also fit easily into a purse or back pocket.
