Some women have an instinct when it comes to being pregnant. In fact, there may even be a distinct few who know from the moment of conception that a life is now growing inside of them. For others, it can be a surprise. It is these women who need signs to verify that conception has taken place. As shocking as it may be, your body begins telling you in various ways that a bundle of joy is on its way; you simply need to listen to it.
Implantation Bleeding
Considered one of the first signs of pregnancy by the Mayo Clinic, implantation bleeding, also known as spotting, typically occurs within 10 to 14 days after conception. This happens when the fertilized egg attaches itself to the lining of the uterus, and can sometimes be accompanied by slight cramping. Implantation bleeding usually takes place before your normal period is due to arrive, and is lighter in color--usually pink. It also is shorter, and has a tendency to come and go, thus earning the name "spotting."
Fatigue
Fatigue can begin as soon as one week after conception, and may be misleading in its description. For some women, exhaustion is a better term. From the moment of conception, your body begins producing the hormones estrogen and progesterone. It is the progesterone that causes this symptom, as it decreases both your blood sugar and blood pressure, while increasing your blood supply. All of these combined can deplete your energy supplies.
Tender or Swollen Breasts
Whether you choose to breast feed or not, your body automatically prepares for this natural process, causing your breasts to feel tender while beginning to swell. Hormones play a role in this as well. During this process, you may notice that your breasts begin to feel heavier; this may be due to the milk production taking place. The American Pregnancy Association states that this symptom can begin as soon as one to two weeks after conception.
"Morning Sickness"
This name is a bit deceiving, as morning sickness can happen at any time of the day or night. You may only suffer from nausea, or it may be accompanied by vomiting as well. One of the better known symptoms of pregnancy, morning sickness typically begins within two to eight weeks after conception and usually only lasts during the first trimester.
Headaches
Upon conception, your body automatically begins increasing its blood supply to meet the demands of both your body and the needs of your baby. This increased blood circulation may cause mild, but frequent headaches in the beginning.
