Dry and damaged hair isn't a rarity. Using strong hair products and heating implements on a daily basis doesn't help in keeping hair healthy. But even if your hair is brittle and dried out, you can still have healthy and manageable hair by changing your lifestyle and adopting a few new hair care tips into your routine.

Step 1

Avoid heat. Using heat products like hair dryers, curling irons and straighteners can zap your hair of its moisture and natural oils, leaving it dried out, frizzy and broken. Cut out the heat as much as possible to restore the health to your hair.

Step 2

Avoid chemical treatments. Dying your hair, perming it or relaxing it can damage the shaft of your hair, causing it to split and break. This is especially true if you use these treatments too often. Let your hair be its natural self for a while to improve its condition.

Step 3

Use a hot oil treatment on your hair once a week. You can buy it over-the-counter or make it at home using olive oil. Gently heat the oil and simply place it onto your scalp and work through your hair. After sitting for a while, rinse out the oil and your hair will be sleeker, shinier and less damaged.

Step 4

Don't use hair products like shampoo that have harsh ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate in it, as this can dry out your hair and lead to further breakage.

Step 5

Make a hair mask using olive oil, avocado, mayonnaise and banana. Mix the ingredients together and apply to your hair.

Allow the conditioning treatment to sit for several minutes, then shampoo your hair like normal. This will condition your hair and leave it feel soft and moisturized, according to Cosmopolitan.
