Acne is an inflammatory condition that affects the skin and presents as pimples, blackheads and clogged pores. Clogged pores are a result of sebum (oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands) and dead skin clogging the hair follicles, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. You can make your own homemade pore cleansers with items that you may already have in your pantry.

Gelatin Mask

Step 1

Spoon 1 tbsp. of unflavored gelatin into a small bowl. Mix in 1 ½ tbsp. of cold milk.

Step 2

Mix the ingredients together to combine and pop the bowl into your microwave for approximately 10 seconds. Apply the warm gelatin mix to your face.

Step 3

Allow the gelatin pore cleanser to sit on your skin for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Peel away the gelatin film after the 10 to 15 minute waiting period.

Garlic Solution

Step 1

Peel 2 to 3 garlic cloves. Mash up the garlic cloves with a mortar and pestle.

Step 2

Add the crushed garlic to 1 cup of boiling water. Allow the garlic solution to cool for approximately 20 to 30 minutes before use. The garlic solution should only be slightly warm to the touch before use.

Step 3

Soak a clean washcloth with the garlic pore cleanser and apply the solution to the areas of your face affected by the acne. Allow the garlic solution to sit on your skin for approximately 15 minutes. Rinse your face with cool water after the 15 minute waiting period.

Clay Mask

Step 1

Pour 2 tablespoons of Fuller's earth into a small bowl. Mix in enough spring water to form a thick paste.

Step 2

Apply the mask to your face for 15 to 30 minutes.

Step 3

Rinse the homemade poor cleanser mask away with cool water.

Tips and Warnings

  • Apply each of the pore cleansers to your face with clean fingertips. Fuller's earth is a gray powder made from algae. You can find Fuller's earth in most health food stores.
  • If any of the homemade pore cleansers cause irritation or burning, rinse them off immediately with cool water.
