Control GERD by Changing Bedtime Habits

Program Description
Curb Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) symptoms during the day by making simple changes before bed, and even while you sleep. GERD is a result of a faulty muscle at the top of the stomach that allows food and gastric acid to seep into the esophagus. You can diminish damage to the esophagus by incorporating a few changes into your nighttime routine, in combination with a proper and well-balanced diet. Sleeping in certain positions and wearing loose clothing can keep the stomach's contents from rising up into the esophagus. And stimulating the production of the alkaline saliva at night can neutralize acidity while you slumber.

Actions
1. Sleep on your left side since the esophagus is attached to the right side of stomach.

2. Avoid sleeping in tight clothing.

3. Elevate the head of your bed about 4 to 6 inches.

4. Stop eating 3 hours before bedtime.

5. Chew gum to produce more saliva.
