Instructions on Stringing a Lacrosse Head

In order to make saves, lacrosse goalies use a stick with a larger catching surface and longer reach than field players. Having an effective stick pocket is vital for this, so it is important to learn how to string the head properly.

Step 1

Open the kit and manually stretch the mesh in every direction until it fills the stick head's opening. Fold the excess mesh over the frame of the head, making sure to align the first and third rows of mesh holes. Tie off one of the ends of the string on the top on the mesh, and thread the remaining string through the head's holes. Re-thread the string back to the start, alternating threading through the holds of the folded-over mesh.

Step 2

Secure one of the sidewall strings by tying it off, and alternately thread it through the bottom of the mesh. Continue this until you reach the top sidewall hole. Push the string through the plastic, wrap it over the first mesh string and tie securely. Repeat this procedure on the opposite side for the other sidewall string. Tie the bottom of the mesh through the bottom holes on the head.

Step 3

Create a pocket in the mesh using a baseball or your fist. Keep your individual playing style in mind while creating the pocket---a loose pocket will be good at trapping the ball, but won't allow for accurate throws.

Step 4

Tie the first shooting string three rows below the top of the head, and work your way across. Be sure to keep the string tight as you go. Tie the second shooting string in the same manner, three rows down from the top shooting string. Thread this string slightly looser than the one above it. Thread the hockey lace string two rows below the bottom shooting string the same way.
