Allegra D (fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine) is a prescription medication indicated for the treatment of symptoms associated with hay fever, seasonal allergies and the common cold. This medication contains two active ingredients: an antihistamine (fexofenadine) to prevent allergy symptoms such as sneezing, and a decongestant (pseudoephedrine) to alleviate nasal congestion. Allegra D side effects are limited but should be discussed with your doctor before you begin treatment.

Headache

During treatment with Allegra D, you can develop a headache as a side effect. In patients taking Allegra D once daily during clinical trials, headache was reported as a side effect by approximately 10 percent of treated patients, based upon information provided by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Headache side effects are generally mild and will progressively subside with continued Allegra D treatment. If you experience a severe headache in conjunction with vision difficulties, chest pain or numbness, contact your doctor immediately, as these side effects may be indicative of elevated blood pressure.

Nausea

Nausea can occur as a side effect in patients taking Allegra D. Additional stomach-related side effects can include stomach pain, constipation or decreased appetite. Certain patients also experience dry mouth during treatment, which can cause mouth or throat pain and can increase sensations of thirst. These side effects are generally mild and may be prevented by eating a small snack before you take a dose of this medication.

Flu-like Symptoms

Allegra D can cause flu-like symptoms to emerge in certain patients during treatment. These symptoms can include fatigue, muscle or back aches, nasal congestion or insomnia. If you experience these side effects, contact your doctor for further evaluation and care.

Skin Rash

While you are taking Allegra D, you can develop an abnormal skin rash as a side effect of treatment. If this occurs, your skin may appear red, irritated or dry and can begin to itch. You may also experience unusual tingling or prickling sensations across your skin. Skin bruising that appears due to minor injuries, such as bumping into a door or cabinet, should be immediately reported to your doctor.

Blurred Vision

Treatment with Allegra D can cause mild vision alterations to occur in some patients, explain health professionals at Drugs.com, a peer-reviewed website that provides information on currently marketed drug products. You may observe that your vision appears cloudy or blurry after taking a dose of this medication. Such side effects may also occur in conjunction with dizziness or headache. Episodes of severe dizziness that are accompanied by restlessness or anxiety should be discussed with your doctor as soon as possible.
