Dark under-eye circles can be shocking to see each time you look in the mirror. Though they can result from tiredness, they are not always indicative of a person's sleepiness. These dark circles can make you look fatigued, even when you're wide awake. They can even make you look older. There are ways to eliminate your under-eye circles using creams and dermatological intervention.

Step 1

Wear a sunscreen with at least SPF 15 every day. Sun exposure can make the skin beneath your eyes look even darker, so protect yourself properly.

Step 2

Use an under-eye cream each night to combat dark pigmentation, puffiness and wrinkles. Use an alpha hydroxy acid-containing product to lighten the area and make the skin smoother. You must use this cream each evening, however, if you want to see results.

Step 3

Hold an ice pack or a cold wash cloth against your eyes for 10 minutes. This will tighten your blood vessels, preventing blood from pooling beneath your eyes and causing darkness.

Step 4

Consult with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon to have your under-eye circles repaired with a laser. Laser therapy can be used to burn off the top layer of skin so that, once the skin under your eyes heals, it will be lighter. Several treatments are often necessary, however.
