Baldness is a condition that mainly strikes men over the age of 40. While some baldness can be hereditary, the main cause of hair loss is inadequate nutrition. Other causes of hair loss can include stress, child birth and major surgery. Hair follicles produce hair when a group of cells turn amino acids into keratin. The rate at which the follicles produce keratin determines how much hair grows. Any problems with the balance of keratin growth causes hair loss, then finally baldness. Hormonal changes, irritation, or damage to the hair follicles can all disrupt the production of keratin. There are hundreds of products on the market that promise they can regrow your hair, but there are products right in your very own home that can be a remedy for baldness.

Step 1

Massage your scalp with oil. Olive oil cleans your pores and can help regrow your hair. Every day, your scalp is exposed to toxic elements like pollution, dirt and sweat. Olive oil contains natural vitamins like vitamin E, D, niacin and biotin, all of which aid hair growth. Replacing your harsh, chemical-based conditioner with this home remedy can help get your hair follicles producing keratin again. Once a week, massage one tablespoon of olive oil into your scalp and leave overnight. Rise with warm water in the morning.

Step 2

Make an aromatherapy remedy. In a study published in the Archive of Dermatology, Dr. Ormerod Jamieson found people who massaged essentials oils into their scalps every night were three times more likely to grow hair. Take three drops of lavender, rosemary, sage and jojoba oil and put them into a bowl. Mix it well and massage it into your scalp for 10 minutes before bed, then wrap your head with a warm towel before falling asleep. Leave it overnight and wash with a mild shampoo in the morning.

Step 3

Hydrate. If you don't drink enough water, the hair follicles that produce hair will not be healthy enough to grow the keratin you need to produce hair. The Mayo Clinic recommends drinking at least eight eight-ounce glasses per day.

Step 4

Drink green tea. According to the American Medical Association, green tea reduces the amount of dihydrotestostorone (DHT) in your body. The AMA says some men and women have hair follicles that react negatively to DHT when they age. Since DHT is one of the leading causes of pattern baldness, the more green tea you drink, the more you reduce your chances of balding. Drink at least three eight-ounce cups of green tea every day.

Step 5

Eat protein. Eggs are an excellent source of protein and biotin. Biotin strengthens the hair, nails and skin. By eating eggs and incorporating biotin into your diet, you can regrow your hair. While eggs are a super food that contain lots of protein, any food with protein can help strengthen the cells that produce hair.
