Knowing the signs of an abusive husband can help some in a troubled relationship realize that help is needed. Whether it's you, a friend or simply an acquaintance with an abusive husband, the signs can help bring the truth of the relationship into the light. It's important to know that not all signs of an abusive husband are physical signs, which can be relatively easier to spot. There are other forms of abuse a husband can engage in, and knowing the signs can equip you to discover the truth about the relationship.

Isolation

A wife who is being abused by her husband may be under the control of the husband. The abusive husband may try to isolate the wife. If a woman is rarely seen in public without her husband, this could be a sign of an abusive relationship that uses isolation as a means of control. The wife may even be restricted from seeing family and friends without the husband. Using another means to isolate the wife, the husband may restrict access to money. If a woman never uses an ATM card, this could be a sign of an abusive husband.

Psychological Signs

A wife who is in an abusive relationship with her husband may exhibit signs of low self-esteem, even if the wife had been known to have high self-esteem. A major change in personality in a wife could be a red flag for an abusive relationship. The emotional state of an abused wife can be stark. A wife may exhibit signs of depression. She may appear anxious or talk about committing suicide.

Physical Signs

Signs of physical abuse from a husband include bruises and other injuries. These injuries may also cause the abused wife to miss work or social functions due to the embarrassment the injuries might cause. In this way, physical abuse can also work to isolate the wife. Another sign that a woman is being physically abused by the husband is the woman wearing clothing that hides skin. This can be a red flag, especially if the woman does not normally wear clothing so expansive.

Other Signs

Another sign that a wife has an abusive husband is when the wife appears afraid of the husband or is overly eager to please the husband. If a wife goes along with everything the husband says without argument or presenting a different view, the husband may be abusive. If a wife checks in often via phone to let him know where she is, the wife may be in abusive relationship.
