How to Get Rid of Breast Hairs

Hair is capable of growing on many parts of the body, including the breasts on both men and women. This can be especially noticeable around the nipple region. Depending on where the hair is growing, as well as how thick or dark the hair is, there are several different methods for breast hair removal. Each method varies both in effectiveness and cost.

Step 1

Shave the affected area using a razor blade. Razors are one of the most economical ways to remove breast hair, but also have the shortest lasting effects due to the short amount of time needed for the hair to grow back above the skin. Shaving hair near the nipple also poses the risk of nicking the sensitive skin of the nipple. Be sure to use a lubricating shave gel to reduce razor burn and other skin irritations.

Step 2

Pluck or wax the hairs from the affected area. Plucking and waxing provide slightly longer results due to the time it takes for the hair strand to grow through the follicle before reaching the skin's surface. Plucking and waxing also provide a cheap option for hair removal, but comes with a substantial amount more pain during the procedure.

Step 3

Apply a depilatory cream to the area. Depilatory creams use chemicals, such as calcium thioglycolate, to break down the structure of the hair strand, making it easily removable by wiping or scraping the skin from the surface of the skin. Because the skin of the breast can be sensitive, test a small area of skin first, or use a product advertised for sensitive skin.

Step 4

Schedule a laser hair removal. Laser hair removal provides the permanent reduction of breast hair, but also costs substantially more than other hair removal methods. Laser hair removal uses specially designed lasers that focus on the pigment producing melanin in your hair. This allows the laser to target and damage the hair-growing mechanisms of the hair follicles in the breast tissue. Several laser treatments may be needed before complete results are seen.

Step 5

Schedule an electrolysis treatment. Unlike laser hair removal, electrolysis provides permanent hair removal, instead of permanent hair reduction. Electrolysis involves the use of a small needle-like device being placed into the hair follicles on the breast. An electrical current is then directed into the follicle damaging the follicle's ability to grow new hairs.
