Redness on your face can make your otherwise clear skin look irritated and splotchy. Usually the sign of a simple reaction to an irritant, some red skin can be the more serious results of a skin condition and should be looked at by your dermatologist. You can do a few things at home to help get rid of redness on your face without a visit to the doctor. Some ingredients you may even find around your home for more natural remedies to calm your red, irritated skin.
Step 1
Apply an over-the-counter (OTC) hydrocortisone cream. According to the Kids Health website, hydrocortisone works by constricting the underlying blood cells, so that redness is less apparent. Apply a thin layer to the red area and allow it to absorb into the skin to restore your skin's calm appearance.
Step 2
Use natural ingredients from around your home to help calm your skin. The Greatest Look website recommends using oatmeal to exfoliate and calm the skin naturally. The cooling sensation of cucumber pulp can help to get rid of redness as well. Mix enough dried oats, cucumber pulp and milk to make a paste. Gently spread it on your face. Leave for five minutes. Rinse away for cooler, calmer, less-irritated skin.
Step 3
Try green makeup as a way to get rid of redness underneath your foundation. Before you apply your foundation, choose a minty green concealer and dab it gently on your red spots. Because green is opposite red on the color wheel, they cancel each other out, leaving you with a more neutral skin tone. Add your foundation on top for a flawless appearance.
Step 4
Use a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher every day. Those who already suffer from irritated skin or conditions like rosacea are more likely to have their skin irritated by the sun, causing more redness. Keep yourself covered by applying sunscreen daily, and wear clothes and hats that cover your skin to give it time to heal to get rid of redness.
Step 5
Make an appointment with your dermatologist, if your skin redness does not resolve itself or gets worse, suggests the Daily Glow website. Your doctor can suggest skin creams and even treatments like steroid shots to help calm the redness on your face so you can feel confident again.
