Warts don't occur from kissing a toad. Warts are caused by the papillomavirus virus, also known as the HPV virus, and they are highly contagious. Warts can be spread from person to person, or to other parts of your own body. Common warts usually appear on the hands, while plantar warts occur on the soles of the feet. Common warts and plantar warts do not usually require a doctor's attention and you can generally cure them with home remedies. Genital warts should not be removed at home and require treatment from a doctor.

Step 1

Place a small piece of duct tape over the wart, suggests the Mayo Clinic. Leave the duct tape over the wart for six days, then remove the tape and soak the wart in warm water. Rub the wart with a pumice stone, then reapply another piece of tape. Continue this process until the wart is completely gone.

Step 2

Apply vitamin A to the wart. Break open a gel caplet that contains 25,000 international units (IU) of natural vitamin A, recommends Robert Garry, Ph.D., and rub the liquid inside over the wart. Repeat once a day until the wart disappears.

Step 3

Keep the wart as dry as possible. Warts grow best in warm, damp conditions. If the wart is on your foot, change your socks several times a day. If the wart is on your hand, apply a small amount of baby powder to your hands throughout the day.

Step 4

Apply an apple cider vinegar solution to the wart once a day. Place a solution of 1 part apple cider vinegar and 1 part water in a bowl, then soak the affected area in the solution for five minutes. Repeat every day.

Step 5

Rub the inside of a potato against the wart once a day, suggests "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies." This ancient home remedy is thought to remove warts because the starch in the potato dries the area out.
