It's never a good feeling to wake up in the morning and be greeted with the sight of dark circles and bags under your eyes, but sometimes, it's a fact of life. Even so, you don't have to live with the puffy, discolored flesh beneath your eyes. There is something you can do about it. Whether it's applying a store-bought cream or undergoing a cosmetic procedure, you can remove dark circles and bags beneath your eyes for once and for all.
Step 1
Make a cold compress out of a wash cloth soaked in ice water and press it beneath your eyes for several minutes. This will constrict your blood vessels, reducing swelling and darkness. It's a temporary solution but a good way to get rid of the bags before you leave the house in the morning.
Step 2
Use creams to soothe and smooth the skin beneath your eyes. Apply sunscreen beneath your eyes and on your eyelids each morning before you leave the house. Make sure it is a formula that won't sting your eyes and contains at least SPF 15 to protect your skin from sun damage, a common cause of darkness around the eyes. You can also apply an eye cream beneath your eyes each night. Try a product that contains alpha hydroxy acids to reduce swelling, repair pigmentation and smooth skin texture.
Step 3
Get plenty of rest each night and take naps when you feel exhausted. It's not that getting at least seven hours of rest a night will reduce your puffy bags and dark circles, it will just make you feel more alert and better about yourself. When you're tired, you don't feel good about your appearance and you look paler, making dark circles more prominent.
Step 4
Use acupressure to relieve irritation and inflammation in your sinuses and eyes that could be causing your dark circles and bags. Press on the fleshy bit of your palm directly below the index finger. Press this area several times on each hand to achieve relief.
Step 5
Stay away from things you know trigger an allergic reaction. When exposed to allergens, your sinuses fill and swell, leaving the area beneath your eyes dark and puffy. Use an allergy medication to put an end to the inflammation.
Step 6
Undergo cosmetic procedures to repair the skin beneath your eyes. Laser therapy will burn the skin, effectively making it an open wound that will heal smoother, with less puffiness and a lighter pigment. An eye lift could also be performed, though it can be costly and requires a few weeks of recovery. In most cases, fat will be removed from beneath your eyes during this procedure and the skin will be lifted to give it a more youthful appearance.
