Properly tied baseball cleats give a player the support and traction necessary for fast footwork out on the field and while running the bases. Tying cleats with good, solid knots will prevent them from easily becoming untied and presenting a safety hazard to the player. Players must remember to check the laces often and retie them when necessary.
Step 1
Loosen the laces of the cleats. Forcing feet into cleats with tight laces places a strain on the eyelets. For unlaced shoes, lace them in a firm crisscross pattern up to the flap.
Step 2
Slip your feet into the cleats. Tighten the laces from the toe end toward the ankle, adjusting each row of laces.
Step 3
Lift the flap and poke the laces up through the holes. Fold the flap down, and tie a standard shoelace knot over the flap. For cleats without flaps, simply tie the knot at the top of the cleat.
Step 4
Tie the loops into a second knot, creating a double knot. This will reduce the chances of the laces coming untied.
Step 5
Ensure that the loops and ends of the laces are not dangling down near the bottom of the foot. If they are, you can replace the laces with shorter ones or tuck the ends under the laced area.
