Ferrules are the pointed attachments at the end of ski poles. They are used to help skiers push themselves forward and change directions, and can even be helpful when stopping. If the ferrule on your ski pole breaks or falls off, it is important to attach a new one quickly in order to have properly working equipment.

Step 1

Use a heat source to remove the ferrules. A variety of items can be used in this step, including a blow dryer, heat gun or even a pot of boiling water on the stove. Place the attachment point of the ferrule over the heat source.

Step 2

Hold the ferrule over the heat sources until the glue attaching it to the pole is softened.

Step 3

Carefully pull the old ferrule off the pole. Remove any excess glue.

Step 4

Let the pole cool. Put a thin coat of water-soluble or ferrule glue to the end of the pole, and attach the new ferrule. Repeat on the other pole, if necessary. Be sure to let the glue dry completely before using the poles.

Things You'll Need

  • Blow dryer, heat gun or pot of boiling water
  • Ferrule glue
