Chipotle Mexican Grill is a chain of casual, Mexican-style grill restaurants. Its dishes are full of spicy flavor, and the fresh selections are a great alternative to more traditional fried fast food choices. With a bar of menu items for you to choose from, it's easy to assemble a taco, burrito or Mexican bowl to your liking, healthy or not so healthy. Knowing just how many calories and fat are in those ingredients will help you make the best choices for a healthier meal at Chipotle.
Burritos
You can build a burrito at Chipotle any way you like. Build a chicken burrito with black beans, rice, cheese, sour cream and salsa for 1179 calories with 420 calories from fat. By substituting steak for chicken, and adding items like black beans, rice, salsa, cheese, lettuce, onions and peppers, the calories will go down to 801 calories, with 297 calories from fat.
Burrito Bowls
A burrito bowl is all the makings of a burrito without the tortilla. If you're not careful, loading up your bowl with lots of ingredients can rack up lots of calories. To minimize calories, don't add too many items in your bowl. A burrito bowl consisting of chicken, black beans, lettuce and salsa is 694 calories, 190 fat calories. By eliminating meat and trying combination of rice, black beans, fajita onions and peppers, corn salsa, tomato salsa, lettuce and guacamole, the calorie count drops to 491 calories.
Tacos
Tacos at Chipotle are served with either soft or hard shells, and are typically served three tacos per order. An order of soft tacos with steak, cheese, salsa and sour cream is 1028 calories, 405 fat calories. But ordering three hard shell tacos with steak, onions and peppers, lettuce and pico de gallo is only 415 calories with 145 fat calories. Three chicken soft tacos with pico de gallo, tomato salsa and lettuce is 577 calories, 175 fat calories.
Salads
Salads are not always the lighter choice. A Chipotle salad with chicken, black beans, corn salsa, mild salsa, cheese, lettuce and dressing is 730 calories, with 200 fat calories. A lighter choice is a salad with steak, lettuce, tomatillo sauce and cheese for 310 calories, 145 fat calories. Eliminate the meat and build a salad of lettuce, tomato salsa, hot salsa, black beans, corn and fajita vegetables for 285 calories, and only 30 fat calories.
Chips and Guacamole
The chips and guacamole are a popular accompaniment to meals at Chipotle. A 4 oz. serving of the chips is 570 calories, and 4oz. of the guacamole is 170 calories on top of that. Having this in addition to your meal could send your daily calorie count skyrocketing, so enjoying the chips and guacamole in moderation is key.
