The rose is a flower of beauty and elegance with a magnificent appearance and a sweet aroma. Organic rose oil is extracted from the soft, delicate petals of this flower by steam distillation. It is 100 percent natural, and according to the Guide to Herbal Remedies website, organic rose oil is chock-full of more than 300 natural ingredients. Its main fragrances are nerol, linalool and eugenol.

History

Organic rose oil has been produced for centuries, and it has been used in folk medicine for thousands of years. The leading producers of organic rose oil are: Bulgaria, China, Iran, India, Turkey and Russia, where the Damascus rose is grown and used for making organic rose oil. The Rosa centifolia variety is found in France, Egypt and Morocco.

Benefits

Organic rose oil is commonly used in medicinal, skin-care and therapeutic industries. It is useful for treating skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis. It is an emollient, a moisturizer and soothing and relaxing massage oil. Organic rose oil is added to a variety of cosmetic products, such as skin creams, lotions and cleansers.

Effects

There is a study on the Pub Med (National Institutes of Health) website called "Relaxing Effects of Rose Oil on Humans." The goal was to investigate the effects of rose oil on automatic emotional responses when it was applied to the skin. The participants wore masks to prevent inhalation of the fragrance. The results showed that rose oil provides some evidence for its use in aromatherapy, such as in the relief of stress and depression in humans.

How to Use

Organic rose oil is very concentrated; it should be used in small amounts. It may be used as a bath oil by adding two drops to the bathwater, where users can enjoy its sweet aroma and the soothing, relaxing effects as it softens and moisturizes the skin. To use rose oil as a perfume, it may be applied behind the ears or dabbed on other areas of skin. Organic rose oil may also be used in combination with other oils, such as almond oil, especially when used as a massage oil.

Warning

Organic rose oil has a strong aroma when used at full strength and could cause a headache. A health-care provider should be consulted before using organic rose oil during pregnancy.
