Blood pressure treatment doesn't have to mean taking drugs. Natural cures can supplement a traditional treatment program, possibly removing the need for taking hypertension medication. There are countless claims for natural treatments. A little research will reveal many alternative medicine options for blood pressure control that work well with medical treatments.

Step 1

Talk to your doctor. When treating a condition as serious as high blood pressure, you should always start with a medical doctor experienced in treating hypertension. The medical community is no longer as resistant to alternative therapies as it used to be and many of them are well-eucated in natural hypertension cures.

Step 2

Consult a nutritionist. Diet is a key part of treating hypertension and healthy eating habits can reduce blood pressure by increasing your intake of helpful nutrients such as Vitamin C and potassium, both effective in controlling blood pressure. However balancing nutrients with medications and additional supplements is difficult to do on your own and requires expert advice.

Step 3

Explore the alternative medicine community. Practitioners such as naturopaths can be valuable sources of knowledge on how different natural supplements or mind-body techniques can help reduce blood pressure. Because regulations governing alternative therapists are less strict than those controlling medical doctors, don't automatically accept any advice you receive. Question the practitioner about past experience and continuing education. Practitioners of alternative medicine should be just as vigorous in their pursuit of new healing knowledge as medical doctors. Be skeptical about anyone selling a personal line of supplements.

Step 4

Visit your library to find articles in scientific, medical and natural healing publications. Recent publications are generally considered more valuable, but this isn't always the case. For example, a number of studies were done in the 1950s on Coenzyme Q10 and its role in lowering blood pressure, and the data is still relevant today. You are likely to find conflicting views on whether specific supplements are helpful for hypertension, but examining the conclusions in each study will help you make your own decision about what will help you.

Step 5

Surf the web. The Internet has a nearly limitless amount of valuable and reliable data on natural hypertension cures, but it has an even greater amount of complete nonsense passing as legitimate information. Of all of your research sources, you should be most skeptical about information found on the Internet. Articles which aren't credited with a specific author, which cite no reference, or are part of a site which sells natural supplements should be viewed with suspicion.
