If you have had a cut or other direct injury to your skin, the healing process may have left a scar. A scar is a mark created during the healing process after skin injury. Your skin is very delicate, and any surgery, burn or injury can cause the formation of scars. They can look very unattractive, especially if they appear on your face and neck. Many factors can influence how your skin will scar, including the location of the injury and depth and size of the wound. Scars are eliminated not just for cosmetic reasons but also due to possible discomfort caused by the location of the scar.

Step 1

Apply a good skin exfoliating cream or serum to remove scars. These creams work by dissolving the dead skin cells from surface layer of your skin, which gradually can make scars fade away. When purchasing an exfoliation serum or cream, look for the active ingredient alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) complex. This ingredient can cause scars to fade. Read and follow the directions in the package. There are many skin exfoliating creams you can choose from at your local pharmacy or supermarket. Ask the pharmacist to help you choose the best exfoliating cream for your type of skin.

Step 2

Get a chemical peel to eliminate your scars. This method is performed by a physician and involves applying an acidic solution such as Trichloroacetic acid or beta hydroxy acid to the scarred areas of your skin. Your skin will begin to peel after a few days after the treatment, and new skin will start to form in about seven to 10 days. You will begin to see results in about a month.

Step 3

Get collagen injections to eliminate deep scar tissue. This cosmetic procedure is performed by a physician. It involves injecting a natural protein called collagen under your scars. The collagen raises the scar to the level of the surrounding skin. The results are not permanent, and you will be asked to come back for repeated treatments.

Step 4

Get laser scar removal to eliminate scars caused by acne, trauma, surgery or other factors. This technique is done by a physician and involves aiming a laser beam at your scars. The small blood vessels under your scars are closed, and the scars are reshaped or removed. The procedure and healing time is quick, and no checkup or other treatment is necessary after.
