Fibromyalgia is a painful, unexplained condition that causes inflammation of the muscles, sensitive joints, extreme fatigue and a host of other symptoms. Though there is no dietary cure or even medical intervention that can cure fibromyalgia, the National Fibromyalgia Association states that certain foods can actually make the symptoms of fibromyalgia worse. Avoiding these particular foods will help the patient with fibromyalgia to feel her best.

Eggplant

Even though eggplant is a vegetable that contains vitamins and minerals, it is not recommended for people with fibromyalgia. The National Fibromyalgia Association explains that nightshade plants, including eggplant, are highly acidic and tend to trigger inflammation and pain associated with fibromyalgia. The organization's experts state that not all people with fibromyalgia are affected by eating eggplant, but since many are, it's best to avoid eggplant in favor of other vegetables like spinach and broccoli.

Full-Fat Cheese

Full-fat cheeses such as mozzarella, cheddar and Swiss can cause problems for people with fibromyalgia for two different reasons. The National Fibromyalgia Association reports that high-fat foods can cause inflammation and pain. Additionally, dairy products such as milk and cheese have been linked to worsening of pain in the fibromyalgia patient. People with fibromyalgia may benefit from using low-fat cheese instead of regular cheese or at least limiting the amount of cheese they consume.

Bacon

Bacon is another food that people with fibromyalgia should avoid or at least limit as much as possible. This is because bacon contains a lot of saturated fat and cholesterol. According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, saturated fat from foods like bacon contains an amino acid called arachidonic acid, which is found to promote inflammation and decreased circulation. The more inflamed a person's joints are, the stiffer and more painful they will be. Therefore, eating bacon frequently or eating too much of it can worsen the pain of fibromyalgia.

French Fries

Foods that are fried, such as French fries, can contribute to more pain in people who have fibromyalgia, according to the National Fibromyalgia Association. Additionally, the association states that many people with fibromyalgia have low blood sugar and trouble metabolizing carbohydrates. Since French fries are not only fried but also high in refined carbohydrates and salt, they can lead to fatigue and swelling.
