As common as wrinkles are, no one likes to accept that they are a part of the natural aging process. Just going about your daily life can cause wrinkles over time, with actions like smiling, frowning and sunbathing adding to the problem. But don't worry: You don't have to live in a cave or quit laughing. Instead, you can take care of your skin and consider cosmetic options that reduce the look of wrinkles, giving you a younger appearance.
Step 1
Use an oil-free moisturizer on your skin every day. After cleansing your face, apply the moisturizer, starting with your neck upward onto your face. Applying a moisturizing cream will hydrate your skin and smooth over wrinkles. This will at the very least make them less noticeable.
Step 2
Apply a vitamin A-infused anti-aging cream. You can get some of these creams over-the-counter. They often contain retinol and offer a mild concentration. However, you can also get retinoids like tretinoin (Retin-A) by prescription. This drug will help remove dead skin faster and boost collagen production, to fill in your wrinkles and smooth away roughness or blotchiness.
Step 3
Use a sunblock with SPF 30 every day. Sun damage speeds up the aging process, so it's best to block those rays as much as possible. Besides, sun exposure dries out your skin and can make your current wrinkles more apparent, so cover up.
Step 4
Undergo laser treatment to remove wrinkles, lines and other skin imperfections. The treatment involves burning off the wrinkled area to encourage new tissue growth. Some lasers are non-ablative, meaning they don't damage the surface of your skin, but instead penetrate deep into your skin to stimulate collagen production. This will give your skin a more supple appearance over time.
Step 5
Use injectables to smooth out your wrinkles. Fillers like collagen and fat can be injected into your wrinkles to make them even with the rest of your skin. Other injectables like Botox paralyze the facial muscles to prevent your wrinkles from showing. In all cases, these treatments are temporary and performed by a dermatologist only.
Step 6
Undergo cosmetic surgery to lift your skin, tighten your muscles and remove your wrinkles. These procedures require healing time and can be very expensive, so make sure they are the appropriate treatments for you before going under the knife.
