The telltale signs of aging skin can appear long before they are due if you do not take care of your skin and protect it from abuse. In fact, neglect of one's self as a whole will cause the skin to age. Live a happy and healthy life and your skin will show it. Learn how to prevent aging skin and practice what you learn if you want your skin to remain young looking for as long as possible.
Step 1
Avoid the sun between the hours of 10 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. The sun is not your skin's friend, and too much of it will make your skin age faster. Do not be fooled by thinking your skin looks better with a tan. Tanned skin is sun-damaged skin, and although your skin may look good while you have that tan, several years later you may wake up to find parched and wrinkled skin. You may also find brown spots. Wear a sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least 15 if you will be outdoors for any amount of time, and wear sunglasses that cover as much of your face as possible.
Step 2
Do not allow your skin to be consistently exposed to strong winds, air pollution or ocean water, as any one of these will cause your skin to age at a faster than normal rate.
Step 3
Cleanse your skin before going to bed at night with a mild soap or facial cleanser, and rinse the soap off of your face with lots of water. Wipe skin clean with a cotton pad that has been moistened with alcohol-free astringent, and then moisturize your skin with a cream moisturizer before your skin completely dries. Find one that offers protection from free radical damage, which is one cause of aging skin. Nourish your skin with a facial mask once a week, and exfoliate the skin on your face as well as your body once a week.
Step 4
Eat healthfully and include lots of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, dairy foods, brewer's yeast, fish and eggs in your diet to prevent aging skin. Drink six 8-oz. glasses of water daily.
Step 5
Get a facial massage every two to four weeks to improve the circulation of blood to the skin. Blood nourishes the skin with oxygen and nutrients. Facial massage also works to make the muscles in the face strong and toned.
Step 6
Exercise every day to increase blood circulation to the skin all over your body.
Step 7
Try to maintain a life that is free of stress. Have a massage or reflexology to de-stress.
Step 8
Choose not to drink excessive amounts of alcohol, and do not indulge in tobacco or drugs.
