Dry skin on the face is flaky, itchy and prone to irritation. According to the Mayo Clinic, the causes of dry skin vary and include harsh weather conditions, responses to drying products, poor diet and improper skincare. Dry skin needs special attention and care to keep it from looking dull and rough. Natural remedies are ideal for dry skin on the face because they contain no harsh chemicals or preservatives that can cause further dehydration.

Step 1

Cleanse the face by applying whole milk or cream with a cotton ball. Allow to absorb into the pores for one to two minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. Milk cleanses the skin while the lactic acid in milk helps to exfoliate away loose flakes.

Step 2

Massage baking soda gently into the face once a week for a skin-polishing scrub. Baking soda deep cleans dry skin and removes lingering dead skin cells that can lead to bacterial growth. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Step 3

Combine 1 tsp. of honey with 1 egg yolk and smooth over the face, allowing it to absorb for 25 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water. Egg yolks contain moisturizing oils and vitamins that nourish dry skin on the face.

Step 4

Dab castor oil on extremely dry areas of your face, such as around the mouth, the corners of the nose and around the hairline. Use your fingertips to apply the oil. Castor oil is thick, which helps moisturize your skin. It contains vitamin E and will absorb into dry areas to repair dryness. Allow the oil to completely absorb into the skin, and do not rinse.

Step 5

Mix together ½ tsp. of grapeseed oil and 4 drops of pure vitamin E oil and massage into your face before bed. This intensive treatment will soften dry skin. Grapeseed oil helps to lock in moisture and is anti-inflammatory, making it beneficial for sensitive, dry skin. Vitamin E works as an extra boost to repair damage and boost collagen production.

Tips and Warnings

  • Drink at least 64 oz. of water a day. Keeping the body hydrated will also hydrate the skin. Eat a balanced diet with an abundance of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Good sources of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants include berries, green leafy vegetables, nuts, whole grains and lean meats. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish and flaxseeds also work to soften and smooth the skin. Do not expose the face to extreme heat. This will only make dry skin worse.
  • If dry skin on the face persists, see a dermatologist.
