Beer belly is a term used to describe a round stomach on a male. However, beer bellies don't technically come from drinking beer. The rounded stomach is actually due to inactivity and excess calorie consumption. Men tend to gain weight around the stomach, so any man that is overweight likely has a large gut.
Step 1
Cut calories. Figure out how many calories you're currently eating in a day, and reduce it by 200 calories. Stay at that level for a week, then drop your intake again. In general, men should not go below 1,800 to 2,000 calories a day.
Step 2
Make healthy food choices. Watch how much fat you consume since lower-fat diets result in better weight-loss results. Eating fruits, vegetables and whole grains is good for your body, which will make you feel better. The better you feel and the more energy you have, the more likely you are to burn off your beer belly.
Step 3
Try smaller meals. When you cut your calories, you will end up hungry. However, if you space your meals out, you avoid the intense hunger that often leads to binge eating to try to fill yourself up. Binge eating leads to weight gain, which means your beer belly stays where it is. Some experts also believe that eating smaller meals more frequently raises your metabolism.
Step 4
Exercise. Exercise burns calories, helping you lose your weight and beer belly. It also tones your muscles, leaving you with more than just extra skin once your beer belly is gone.
Step 5
Drink in moderation. Beer is empty calories. It doesn't fill you up, but it does add to your calorie intake. When you drink alcohol, you're also likely to eat more, resulting in even more calorie intake. You can't lose your beer belly if your calorie consumption exceeds how many calories you burn off.
