Rashes involve changes in the color, texture and appearance of your skin. Your face or any part of your body can be affected. Rashes can change the color of your face and cause it to become itchy, red, dry and irritated. Your skin can also become scaly. Facial rashes are caused by numerous factors, including soaps, cosmetics, detergents, hair dyes and hats. Most simple facial rashes can be treated with a few remedies you can apply at home.

Step 1

Apply an over-the-counter (OTC) steroid cream, such as hydrocortisone cream, to help eliminate facial rashes. Hydrocortisone works by repairing the injured blood vessels under the affected facial skin areas, due to scarring and irritations. Read and follow the directions that accompany the cream before applying it to your face.

Step 2

Apply a cold pack to your facial rash to suppress the swelling and itching. Place 1/2 cup of ice in a clean cloth, and place on your face for 10 minutes at a time and whenever needed. Applying a cold pack will stop the itching and swelling by cooling your skin.

Step 3

Apply calamine lotion onto your facial rash twice daily or when needed. Caladryl protects the facial rash and makes it less irritated and itchy.

Step 4

Take an OTC antihistamine, such as Benadryl. Take one tablet every four to six hours or as directed until your rash is eliminated. Benadryl is an antihistamine that blocks the effect of histamine, a compound in your body that causes itchiness and redness to occur. This medication will make you sleepy; do not take it before or when you drive.
