Electric shavers usually provide a smoother shave than standard razors, with fewer nicks, cuts and bumps. However, sometimes electric shavers can cause shaving bumps, whether they're irritation, ingrown hairs or a rash. There are ways you can combat these bumps and maintain silky-smooth skin after you shave.
Step 1
Clean your electric shaver every couple days or so. Dust away hairs using a small brush, and clean away any dirt, dead skin or grime that has built up on the blade.
Step 2
Use an electric razor powder or stick each time you use your razor. Apply the powder to your skin liberally, then shave. This will lubricate the blade, protect your skin from the blade's surface and still cut away the hair.
Step 3
Shave sensitive areas first, like around the nose and mouth or the armpits. These areas are prone to the most irritation and will benefit from a cool blade rather than a hot one.
Step 4
Don't shave every day. Give your skin a break and shave every other day to reduce irritation and the damage to your skin's surface from the repetitive swipe of a razor.
