One of the oldest natural health remedies is apple cider vinegar. In addition to containing some nutritional value, it has natural cleansing properties as well. However, what works for some people may not work for others. If the condition persists, consult your doctor.
Arthritis Relief
Drinking apple cider before each meal has been used to treat arthritis. Although very little scientific evidence indicates that this works, those who use it claim that it helps dissolve hardened deposits on the joints that cause inflammation and irritation. You also may rub the vinegar on areas that hurt. Because the skin is a porous organ, the thought behind this is that the skin absorbs the vinegar directly.
Weight Loss
Some people claim that drinking apple cider vinegar helps with weight loss. The recommended dosage is 2 tsp. of apple cider vinegar to an 8-oz.-glass of water, which should be drunk before each meal. However, Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D., claims that there is no evidence of its effectiveness for weight loss in an article at MayoClinic.com.
Reducing Acne
According to Apple-cider-benefits.com, apple cider vinegar can help reduce acne. Mix 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar with 8 oz. water. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and dab this directly on the acne. This helps reduce inflammation as it cleans out the infection.
Athlete's Foot
Another purported benefit of apple cider vinegar is that it clears up athlete's foot. Fill a small tub with half apple cider vinegar and half water. Soak your feet in the vinegar water twice a day for 30 minutes per session. You also may apply plain apple cider vinegar directly to the infection throughout the day and right before you go to bed.
Reduce Blood Pressure
Proponents of using apple cider vinegar for healing purposes claim that drinking 1 tbsp. of apple cider and 1 tbsp. of honey in 8 oz. of water can help lower blood pressure. The theory is that both the apple cider vinegar and the honey have a high amount of potassium, which helps balance the sodium that contributes to high blood pressure. They also have the mineral magnesium, which helps relax the walls of the blood vessels.
Get Rid of Dandruff
Another purported use for apple cider vinegar is to get rid of dandruff. Before washing your hair, pour pure apple cider vinegar over your scalp and massage it. Wait 30 minutes to an hour before you wash your hair. The vinegar works to get rid of the bacteria that causes dandruff.
Regulate Blood Sugar
According to the American Diabetes Association's website, drinking vinegar water before a meal may help regulate blood sugar longer after insulin injections in type 1 diabetes. Vinegar is not a substitute for insulin, and diabetics should use it only under a doctor's care.
