Self-confidence plays a major role in your happiness and success in life. Employers typically look for self-confident people to hire. Both men and women tend to look for a self-confident mate. If you feel as though you lack self-confidence, there is no need for despair. Self-confidence can be obtained, and sooner than you might think.

Step 1

Get a new haircut and buy some new clothes. Make a commitment to your new, self-confident lifestyle by giving yourself a new appearance. Look good on the outside to help yourself feel better on the inside.

Step 2

Clean and organize your home. Don't live in a messy home that makes you feel as though your whole life is in disarray. Organize your home to make yourself feel more confident that you have your act together.

Step 3

Start an exercise routine and stick to it. Choose exercises that will help you tighten up any flabby areas. Watch your self-confidence increase as you reshape your body. Take note of the extra energy you have as a result of exercise.

Step 4

Keep your chin up and walk with confidence. Don't slouch and stare at the ground as you walk around. Let your body posture tell your brain that things are, indeed, looking up.

Step 5

Make an effort to smile more often. See how difficult it is to feel depressed when you have a big smile plastered on your face. Try smiling at the occasional stranger and saying "Hello." Notice how many people smile back at you and see how you begin to feel more confident around other people.

Step 6

Compliment other people whenever you have the chance. Look for opportunities to compliment people on things such as a new hairstyle or a job well done. Make somebody else's day a little brighter and notice how you feel a bit better about yourself.

Step 7

Write down all the things you have accomplished in your life. Include large and small accomplishments in this list. Read over the list and realize just how far you have come in your life. Let this realization give you the self-confidence for future accomplishments.

Step 8

Start keeping a grateful journal. Write down everything that you are grateful for daily. Write down everything from having a good meal to having a nice chat with a friend. Focus on the positive things that you have in your life instead of on the things you don't have.

Step 9

Give money to charitable organizations. Give to others regularly and you will be amazed at how good it feels to make a difference. Doing things that make you feel good about yourself truly helps to boost self-confidence.

Step 10

Set achievable goals for yourself and work on them in small steps. Watch your self-confidence grow as you achieve each step along the way to a goal. Watch your confidence skyrocket when you achieve the ultimate goal.
