Wrapping a hockey stick gives it a manageable grip, allowing for easier puck handling. Make sure to use the proper amount of tape in order to optimize results.
Step 1
Wrap your hockey stick with hockey tape around the blade of the stick approximately one inch from the heel of the stick. Start the tape on the top of edge of the blade in order to prevent the tape from unwrapping.
Step 2
Continue wrapping the tape around the blade by overlapping the layers as you reach the front of the blade. Once the tape is one inch from the end of the stick blade, end the tape, making sure to stop at the top of the blade. Be careful when applying tape, as too much can make the stick heavy and hard to handle.
Step 3
Rub a small amount of hockey wax into the hockey stick. This coats the blade and allows for easier puck handling.
Tips and Warnings
- Choose a high quality hockey stick made from aluminum, carbon fiber, wood or Kevlar. Aluminum sticks are good for beginning hockey players as they are relatively inexpensive. Carbon fiber hockey sticks are more expensive and are typically used by more advanced players. Find a high quality stick regardless of the material. Good sticks last longer and need fewer repairs than a lower quality stick. Purchase a roll of high quality white or black hockey tape.
