3 Ways to Use the NuvaRing for Birth Control
1. How It Works
The NuvaRing is a type of monthly birth control. To be able to use the NuvaRing you must consult your primary health care provider or gynecologist. They will inform you of your options and help you make an informed decision that is best for you. Ask them any questions you may have about the NuvaRing and the procedures for using it. It is different from other forms of birth control, because it is a ring of medication that you place into the vagina for one month. During that month, the hormones that it contains absorb into the bloodstream. After three weeks, it is taken out and discarded.
2. Insertion and Removal
Using the NuvaRing is simple. You insert the NuvaRing into the vagina, grasping the ring between the thumb and index finger. If you can feel it, simply move it further into the vagina. The exact placement is not a concern. The NuvaRing simply needs to be in the vagina so the hormones can be absorbed. Find the most comfortable position for you. The muscles of the vagina hold the NuvaRing in place. To remove the NuvaRing, simply use the index finger to hook around and pull it from the vagina. Then dispose of the NuvaRing in the packaging it came in.
3. Read the Inserts
As with any type of birth control, follow all directions carefully. It is recommended that during the first seven days of use, you use an additional type of birth control. Inform your doctor that you are using the NuvaRing, as you would any other medication. Know the possible side effects. Side effects may vary but include weight gain, nausea, break through bleeding and spotting. It is recommended to store unused NuvaRings away from heat and direct sunlight. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or call the available toll free numbers on the NuvaRing packaging. Read the fine print on the package insert for all of this information and more.

I'm only sixteen years old, and I am currently sexually active with my boyfriend. My parents are extremely religious and totally against pre-marital sex, so i already know there is NO WAY possible for me to get consent from them for birth control. I really want to get some though, because although I use a condom, I want to be fully protected and a pregnancy is the last thing I need in my life. I know there are free birth clinics and I an go there, but is it possible to get NuvaRing as a minor without parental consent?

Check online, but I'm pretty sure that Planned Parenthood is an option for you.
