Homeopathy is an energetic medicine founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. It's derived from plant, animal or mineral constituents found in nature to treat chronic and acute conditions based on the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the individual. Homeopathy acts on the law of similars, which is a "like treats like" basis, to balance disease in the body. This urges the body to stimulate its vital force and natural innate ability to heal and return to a place of wellness.
Acute Anxiety
Anxiety is commonly treated with homeopathy. Acute anxiety is generally triggered by an event leading to the anxious state and then resolves after the trigger is removed. The most common homeopathic remedies for acute anxiety states are Aconite, Arsenicum album, Argentum nitricum, Gelsemium, Lycopodium, Ignatia and Natrum muriaticum.
Common Homeopathic Treatments for Acute Anxiety
Aconite is for anxiety due to a sudden shock or fright that comes on fast and furiously with a throbbing component, palpitations or shortness of breath. Arsenicum album is for anxiety surrounded by fear; fear of illness; fear of disease; fear about lack of money and security; anxiety that makes you feel restless, exhausted yet unable to sleep; and fear that things may not go as planned. Argentum nitricum is for anxiety with fears and phobias; performance anxiety; hot flashes and sweats when anxious. Gelsemium is for when anxiety escalates with fear of failure when performing in front of others, paralyzed and unable to remember what you are saying or doing. Lycopodium is for anxiety with a false sense of confidence, generally accompanied by stomach upset, gas, bloating and diarrhea. Igantia/Natrum Muriaticum is for anxiety that results from a grief or strong disappointment. Ignatia has a more hysterical component crying one minute, laughing the next. Natrum muriaticum is for those who are more reserved and prefer to be left alone without consolation.
Chronic Anxiety
Although anxiety is effectively treated with homeopathy, chronic anxiety states that have lasted longer than six months should be evaluated to uncover the root cause of the anxiety and any possible physiological contributing factors before using homeopathy as a treatment.
Dosing
In acute cases, 6X dosing is recommended. Take five pellets of the homeopathic remedy every two hours during an anxious event and discontinue use immediately when anxious feelings start to lift. If you're anticipating an event, a performance or speech, you can take the remedy at bed the night before, then every two hours upon waking and 15 minutes before the event as your last dose. Homeopathy should be dispensed into the lid of the vial it's distributed in and without touching the pellets, placed underneath the tongue to dissolve. Do not eat or drink anything 15 minutes before or after taking the remedy, especially any strong aromatics (coffee, peppermint, mint toothpaste).
