Corns and calluses on the feet can be unsightly and uncomfortable. In some cases, they may even cause severe pain upon walking or can cause cracks and splits in the skin. A pumice stone is a useful tool for removing corns and calluses gradually, without the risk of infection associated with cutting hardened skin off the feet.
Step 1
Use a pumice stone on your feet after showering, or soak the affected foot in warm, soapy water for 5 to 10 minutes before use. This will soften the skin and make removal of dead skin considerably easier.
Step 2
Wet the stone with water, and then rub it on your corn or calluses using medium pressure. Continue rubbing for 3 minutes, moving the stone in a back-and-forth motion.
Step 3
Stop using the stone immediately if you experience any pain or bleeding. Be careful to use the stone on soft, live skin.
Step 4
Apply lotion or a moisturizing ointment to your feet after using the pumice stone. This will soothe your skin and help prevent the formation of new corns or calluses.
Step 5
Wash the pumice stone well in warm water and soap to remove any skin cells, dirt, or other debris. A dirty stone is less effective and increases the risk of bacterial and fungal infections. Allow the stone to air dry after washing.
