1. Dance Your Way to Fitness
Base your dance fitness program on what your body needs. You might need to maintain weight and stay toned, or you may need to lose 75 pounds and learn how to get fit by dancing. You can do almost any dance fitness program you want if you are maintaining weight. However, if you are not in good physical condition to start with, you will need to start out with a beginner-level class in whatever style of dance fitness you choose. Videos are a bit easier to get started with because you can do them in the privacy of your own home (as long as you actually do them). Start out with something light and easy, such as Richard Simmon's "Sweatin' to the Oldies."
2. Kickin' Hoppin' or Just Get Rockin'
Pick a dance fitness program that appeals to you as fun more than fitness. If you like to do kickboxing, pick a dance fitness class that incorporates dancing with kickboxing or look into videos, such as "Turbo Jam" with trainer Chalene Johnson. Take a hip-hop class for dance fitness if you love the style of hip hop. You could also tryout the "Hip Hop Abs" video series with trainer Shaun T. These give you the hip hop and rap music to motivate you through a hip-hop style dance workout. Make your dance fitness a dance party with video workouts like "Rockin' Body" or "Shaun T.'s Dance Party" with trainer, Shaun T.
3. Get Your Booty Fit with Dance
Using a dance fitness program for specific desires, such as toning the arms, the abs or strengthening the body core, needs to be considered in deciding which dance fitness program to do. Ballet classes will definitely tone and strengthen the body through dance. Pilates and yoga classes work on strengthening the body core and all the muscle groups of the body, so why not combine them? The "Yoga Booty Ballet" videos take the intensity of Pilates and yoga and combine them with some of the technique of ballet for an overall body toning through dance fitness.
4. Feel the Burn, Dance to the Beat
Aerobics, step aerobics and low-impact aerobics classes are offered at many health clubs. These combine calorie-burning aerobics with basic dance movements to dance music for motivation. Jazzercise is another great series of classes that teaches short routines to upbeat music and top hits to burn calories, get fit, tone the body and have fun while dancing. There are also Jazzercise videos if you don't live where classes are offered.
