Rose hips are actually the seed pods of certain types of roses. They vary in size from 1/2- to 1-inch long, are oval in shape and usually bright red in color, although they can range from yellow to deep purple. Rose hips are an excellent source of vitamins A, B3, D and E and provide more vitamin C than do citrus fruits. They also contain flavonoids, tannins and minerals. A tea made from rose hips can be used as a home remedy in dealing with a cold or the flu.

Step 1

Wash the dried rose hips thoroughly. Chop them finely, so there are about four to six level teaspoonfuls. Place the chopped rose hips in the tea infuser and seal the lid.

Step 2

Bring two cups of water to a boil. Pour the water in the tea pot and place the tea infuser with the rose hips into the water. Steep the hips for approximately ten minutes to make the tea.

Step 3

Remove the tea infuser and pour the rose hip tea into a cup. Sweeten the tea to taste. Drink the tea as needed.
