When warm weather approaches, you may want to begin wearing sandals. After wearing closed shoes for several months, your feet may not look or feel beautiful enough to bare. Take about a half-hour out of your schedule to relax and pamper yourself with a home pedicure. You will be able to display your freshly cared-for feet with confidence.
Step 1
Soak your feet in warm water and bath salts or oils for several minutes. Use whatever scent you like that makes you feel relaxed. Some relaxing scents include chamomile, lavender and mint.
Step 2
Use a foot file or pumice stone to smooth out your heels and any calluses. Rinse your feet and pat dry with a soft towel.
Step 3
Cut your toenails straight across with nail clippers. Use an emery board to smooth the edges into a softly rounded shape.
Step 4
Apply a moisturizing cream and massage your feet. "Self" magazine recommends rolling a golf ball under each foot for a few minutes.
Step 5
Use nail polish remover and cotton balls to remove any residual moisturizer and old nail polish from your toenails. Push back your cuticles with a nail file.
Step 6
Separate your toes with cotton balls or a toe separator, and paint your nails in a fresh, new color. Apply two coats of polish, followed by a top coat for shine and durability. Let your polish dry for at least 15 minutes to avoid smudges. Wait an hour or two before wearing close-toed shoes, recommends "Marie Claire" magazine.
