3 Ways to Gain Flexibility With Power Yoga

1. Water Works

To gain flexibility with power yoga, it may seem as simple as practice; however, a few simple tips can help you to get flexible faster. Water is the key ingredient in any form of exercise, particularly power yoga, for a variety of reasons. Ensuring that your body is fully hydrated keeps the muscles and joints in smooth running order, like adding oil to your car. When you become dehydrated, muscles become stiff and sore, you are less flexible and joints are painful. Additionally, you are far more likely to injure yourself if you are not fully hydrated. Additionally, yoga works to release and remove toxins in your body, which if not flushed properly can also cause muscle stiffness and pain. So, by making sure that you drink plenty of water before, during and after practice, you will find that you quickly increase flexibility with power yoga.

2. A Regular Routine

In order to get flexible with power yoga, you must become dedicated to your practice. Doing yoga now and then will only cause frustration; however, practicing three or more times a week for 60 to 90 minutes will increase your flexibility and strength in leaps and bounds. Yoga may be extremely difficult at first, but with dedication, poses will become a bit easier with each session and soon you will be easily slipping into poses that you never thought possible. Have patience with your own body, continue to work on the more difficult poses and keep a regular routine to get more flexible quickly with power yoga.

If you are just beginning yoga, it is best that you attend a regular class lead by a qualified instructor so that you can learn the building blocks of proper yoga practice. By learning the basics you will get the most of each stretch to increase flexibility with more ease and less time. Simple steps, such as how to breathe in power yoga to increase stretching, how to breathe when lifting and lowering into poses, how to modify poses for your fitness level, how to flow poses together, how long to hold each pose for the best results and how to target certain areas with specific poses or series of poses, are all invaluable lessons which will carry you towards perfect yoga practice. These lessons are hard to learn if not in a class setting with a live instructor. If you practice yoga at least three times each week, you will find that quickly you can develop your own routines using what you have learned and/or supplementing your knowledge with books or videos for comfortable home practice.
