With all the treatments, expensive cosmetic procedures, natural home remedies and questionable quick fixes on the market today, finding a cure for acne and oily skin can often feel overwhelming. While some of these treatments may work for some people, finding the treatment that is right for your acne and oily skin is largely a hit-or-miss endeavor. However, one sure fire way to put your skin on the path to clearness is to stick to a simple, oil-free daily skin care regimen and a healthy diet.
Step 1
Cleanse the skin twice a day with a mild, oil-free, non-comedogenic cleanser. Avoid washing your face more than twice a day as excess cleansing causes dryness which leads the skin to produce excess oil.
Step 2
Tone and clarify the skin after cleansing with a mild astringent like witch hazel to remove impurities and bacteria from the skin and tighten pores. Avoid astringents with high alcohol content as this can be drying to the skin and can lead the skin to produce excess oil.
Step 3
Apply a light oil-free, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic moisturizer after cleansing and toning. Choose a moisturizer free of perfumes, dyes or other ingredients that could irritate the skin.
Step 4
Use cosmetics that are oil-free and non-comedogenic.
Step 5
Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. Skin needs to be hydrated from within and water helps to flush toxins and impurities that can cause acne and overproduction of oil.
Step 6
Eat a healthy diet free of sugar, caffeine and fatty foods, all of which can cause irritation in the skin and an overproduction of oil.
