Astringent cucumber makes for a stimulating, pore-tightening facial mask. There’s no need to visit a spa or pay big bucks for this type of treatment -- just put your blender and a vegetable peeler to work creating an inexpensive homemade spa treatment. This product can be refrigerated for up to two days, although you should always discard it and make a new mask if there’s any change in appearance or odor after storage.

Peel a small cucumber. Discard the skin. Puree the cucumber until smooth in a food processor or blender.

Add 1 teaspoon honey or 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel to the cucumber puree if desired; these ingredients are optional. Both honey and aloe moisturize. The aloe helps heal minor skin irritations and the honey has antimicrobial properties.

Grind 1 tablespoon of oatmeal into a fine powder in a coffee grinder. Add this to the cucumber puree and blend thoroughly, either by hand or in the food processor. You can add 1 tablespoon brewer’s yeast as well, if you desire. The oatmeal exfoliates, while the yeast improves circulation, nourishes with B-complex vitamins and tightens pores.

Smooth the cucumber mask onto your face, rubbing it on with circular motions. Leave in place for up to 30 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
